I’ve got another inspiring weight loss success story to share today! Veronica has lost 80 pounds by cutting out alcohol and switching to a nourishing diet. It all began with a decision. As she demonstrates, “If you can change your thoughts you can change your habits!”

Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
I am a stay home mum and I had to resign from my job due to neuropathic pain. I gained 30kgs (about 66 pounds) while at home due to medication and bad eating and drinking habits. Weight just began to pile on, I went from a size 10 to a size 16. I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror. But the only way I thought I could manage my chronic pain was to drink and eat. Alcohol was my biggest poison.

What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or “A-Ha Moment” That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
When I went to my 5th neurologist to find some sort of a medical intervention for my pain, but once again it was a wasted $350 for a 10 minute session, I was dismissed with out any consideration, stating “there is nothing that can be done.”

After 2 years of trying to find a medical intervention, this was the day that I gave up and decided to go another route to manage my pain. I decided to change my drinking and eating habits, something in my brain switched and I was on a mission. I decided to see a nutritionist who set me on the right path.

How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
My eating habits has changed drastically! I used to binge eat a lot especially after heavy drinking. I would eat a lot of rice & curry, junk food. And at times I would go through one tub of ice cream. I didn’t care what I ate when I was drunk and hungry.

I have now cut out alcohol, which helped with the weight loss, and I have cut out dairy, red meat and refined carbs. I eat a lot of vegetables, a little bit of chicken. I will have seafood, and fruits. When I began my weight loss journey I was careful with portions and the type of vegetables and fruit. But now I am not so strict, as long as I stay within my required calorie intake.

What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
I did no exercises whatsoever before, as I blamed it on my pain, but now I do at least 60 minutes a day. Usually some combination of walking, running & walking, aerobics/strength training.

What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
I’ve had a whole lifestyle change. I have more energy now to spend with my kids. I feel healthier and I have a stronger mental capacity to deal with my pain.

My Favorite Recipe

I love simple Roasted Veggies.

Ingredients:

  • Mix any vegetables you like.
  • Drizzle with olive oil.
  • Bit of salt.
  • Bit of coriander.
  • Bit of cumin.

Directions

    1. Mix it together and spread on a baking sheet (affiliate link).
    2. Bake 180 degrees C (about 350F) for 20-30 minutes, until crispy.

How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
I have lost 37 kgs (about 82 pounds) in 10 months.
