My name is Nancy Desrosiers, I’m 38, originally from Brooklyn, NY. But I’m currently living outside of Atlanta, GA.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to help others, so I went to college with a major in psychology, unfortunately that did not work out too well, so I went in to the customer service field which I loved because I was able to work from home and take care of my children.

I made the decision to take my weight issues seriously because I could no longer live the life that I was living. My quality of life was in the toilet along with my self-esteem and confidence. The bigger I got, the more health issues came to play, the more I drowned deeper into my depression and that vicious cycle went on for years.

I have 4 beautiful children I was entrusted by God to take care of and they were taking care of me. Helping me get dressed every morning. I became a burden on them and even though they never said it out loud, I felt it in my heart. My mother who always accompanied me to all of my many doctors appointments lived in fear of having to one day bury her child.

Nancy’s weight loss journey, before and after

In 2012, at 182 I started my first attempt to get my weight, health and life under control and lost close to 30 pounds. During that time I was diagnosed with cerebral hypertension aka pseudotumor cerebri. It mimics a brain tumor but no tumor is present. They started me on Prednisone and one of the side effects is weight gain. I hit a plateau in my weight loss, became overwhelmed by my medical issues and began to feed my pain.

From 2014 to 2019 I had 3 surgeries, was diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, sarcoidosis, fatty liver, depression, sleep apnea & high cholesterol. I sat in front of bottles upon bottles of medications to be taken daily. From the 160 my weight skyrocketed to my highest weight of 282 in January of 2019.

My 6 Month Weight Loss Journey – I’m Down 100 Pounds!

Fast food was my best friend, it was tasty, convenient & always available. During dinner I would sit in front of 2 plates of Chinese food every night. I would walk in and they already knew my order, chicken wings, fried rice and beef & broccoli with EXTRA sauce all over the rice! I ate both plates down to the last grain of rice. So McDonald’s made me breakfast, lunch was whatever restaurant I was closest to and dinner was always Chinese food. As far as drinks, peach soda or Sprite. Oh and I cannot forget my energy drinks.

From January 2, 2019 to January 19, 2020, I have lost 136 pounds!

My heaviest was 282 pounds.

As of the 19th of January 2020 I am down to 147 pounds.

I started by eliminating all fast food and made a promise to myself that if I didn’t cook it, I wouldn’t eat. I also refrained from frying the foods that I did cook. I tried day by day to make the healthiest food choices that I could.

At that weight my body was in so much pain. Knees, ankles, lower back and feet would hurt so very bad that I couldn’t see myself going to a gym to workout, but I did enjoy dancing so my daughter, Jennifer, pulled up a Zumba fitness videos on YouTube and I got started two-stepping in my living room.

My family was/is very supportive and even though I couldn’t see myself accomplishing anything even close to this, they did. I honestly think we’re all a little bit surprised that I did lose this much but they always believed in me. My mindset was, no way could I ever go back to living that life. The only thing left for me was death and I had 4 beautiful children, amazing parents and the most supportive mother ever, I did not want to disappoint them neither.

Around that time I also lost a dear dear friend to a stroke, mind you when I first started my journey my blood pressure was 174/113. The 3 episodes of cardiac arrest sent him home to be with the Lord at 46, leaving behind 5 beautiful children. Whenever I felt unmotivated, I would always remember my why… why I got started like having the kids dressing me, and at that moment, I added my friend to my list of why, why I gotta keep pushing no matter what.

My weight loss secret is know why you want to get started, because like I said you’re not always going to be motivated, but remembering why you started and why you never want to visit that place again, will get you off of that couch or up out of that bed. Also be patient with yourself, there are ups and downs, everyday is not going to be a good day but don’t let that stop you, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.

Well I still have 13 more pounds to go until I reach my goal of 130, but along the way I’ve gained so much confidence, nothing cocky just very very proud like: You go girl! You did that! Now I honestly feel like I can do anything I put my mind to and that’s powerful. Also I can walk, run, jump and play with my kids and that’s an amazing amazingly great feeling.

I still dance and do my cardio and walking, but I recently began taking weight/strength training a lil bit more serious.

Never married with 4 amazing children.

I created my IG fitness page because I wanted a safe judgement free place to share my journey with people that had the same goal I had. And I’m so very happy I did, my IG weightloss community is the best.

My online weightloss buddies are so supportive, so encouraging, it’s honestly only nothing but love. We understand one another’s struggles, give advice to one another, it’s a beautiful thing

I have not undergone any surgery for weightloss. I would love to one day have the excess skin removed but it will happen in God’s timing
